NGN - Nigerian Naira

The Central Bank of Nigeria has overseen the Naira since its introduction. Established in 1958, the CBN manages the currency's value, controls inflation, and ensures monetary stability. Nigeria uses a managed floating exchange rate, adjusting the Naira’s value to balance market demand and economic policy.

The Naira was introduced on January 1, 1973, replacing the Nigerian Pound at a rate of 2 Naira to 1 Pound. This move towards decimal currency simplified transactions for the growing nation. Over the years, the Naira has faced economic challenges, but there is still hope and potential.

Nigeria's Naira is one of the few African currencies that has changed its value and policies many times to fight rising prices (inflation) and make the economy more stable. Also, with Naira, the Central Bank of Nigeria has been able to push for more people to use banks and digital money. They've created rules for mobile money and encouraged people to use less cash.

The currency symbol for the Naira is “₦,” a stylized letter “N” with two parallel lines, representing stability and strength. The code “NGN” is used for international transactions. The Naira’s symbol is instantly recognizable in Africa and global financial markets dealing with Nigerian trade.
