AUD - Australian Dollar

Since 1960, the Reserve Bank of Australia has managed the country's currency, monetary policy, and financial stability. The AUD operates on a floating exchange rate, meaning its value changes based on market supply and demand—the RBA steps in when necessary to control inflation and protect the country's economy.

The Australian Dollar was officially introduced on February 14, 1966, replacing the Australian Pound. It was one of the first major currencies to switch to a decimal-based system, making everyday transactions simpler for Australians. Over time, the AUD has become a favorite in global trading due to Australia’s strong economy and stable financial system.

In 1988, Australia introduced the first polymer banknotes in the world. These notes are more durable, harder to counterfeit, and environmentally friendly than traditional paper notes. Early Australian coins were known as holey dollars, created by punching out the centers of Spanish dollars to prevent their illegal use.

The currency symbol for the Australian Dollar is “A$,” with “AUD” used in international markets. The “A” distinguishes it from other dollar-based currencies. Despite no stylized icon like the Euro or Pound, the A$ remains globally recognizable and trusted in international transactions.
