Because of its performance, Muhammad Ali Jinnah requested Habib Bank relocate its operations to Karachi in Pakistan after the country gained independence. After the Pakistani Government announced the privatization scheme, Habib Group was the first to get permission to start a private bank, Bank AL Habib Limited.

Bank AL Habib was incorporated as a Public Limited Company in October 1991 and started its banking operations in 1992. This bank has a branch network of 1000 branches in 408 cities across Pakistan. It also has six branches in different countries worldwide
