Pakistan is the fifth largest country in the world by population, and the country has a proud and fascinating history. There are huge cities almost twice the size of New York, ruins scattered in vast deserts, the beginning of the world-famous Himalayan mountain range, and enormous mosques. While 95% of Pakistanis are Muslim, the population is very diverse. There are more than 15 major ethnic groups in the country, including Punjabis, Sindhis, Kashmiris, Baltis, and more.
Since the overwhelming majority of the country is Muslim, most of the holidays that are observed are religious in nature. Eid-al-Fitr, the breaking of the fast at the end of Ramadan, is a major holiday in Pakistan, as is Eid Milad-un-Nabi, or the celebration of Prophet Muhammad’s birth. The small Christian population celebrates Christmas, and the equally small Hindu population celebrates Holi, but these are not large observances in the country. A major non-religious holiday that is celebrated every year is Independence Day, which commemorates Pakistan’s independence from British rule.
Karachi is the largest city in Pakistan, with a population of nearly 15 million. Lahore is just behind at more than 11 million, followed by Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Peshawar, and Multan. Islamabad, the country’s capital, is the ninth-largest city in Pakistan, with just over 1 million citizens. In total, there are more than 216 million residents of Pakistan. While Canada is more than 9 million square kilometers larger in physical size than Pakistan, Pakistan has over 195 million more residents. Whether your loved ones are from a large city or a small village, Remitbee can help convert your Canadian Dollars to Pakistani Rupees and send them directly into their bank account.
Since Pakistan is such a large country, they naturally have many banks with hundreds of locations throughout the country. Habib Bank Limited (HBL) was founded in 1941 and is the largest bank in Pakistan. Today it has 1,500 branches in Pakistan, 55 branches in different countries, and 2,000 ATMs in total. The National Bank of Pakistan is the largest state-owned bank, with 1,450 branches across the country and 21 international branches. Meezan Bank, MCB Bank, United Bank Limited (UBL), and Allied Bank also have a large presence in Pakistan.
As long as your loved one has a bank account, Remitbee can help you send money directly into their account through electronic money transfer services. We offer some of the lowest CAD to PKR exchange rates and never tack on hidden fees. Depending on your level of verification, you can transfer larger quantities of money every day, week, and month.
The Pakistan community has been one of the fastest-growing immigrant communities in Canada. It grew from 79,315 in 2001 to 156,860 in 2011 and has grown by tens of thousands since then. Almost 75% of those immigrants live in Ontario, with almost all of them centered around larger cities in Canada. We are glad to be able to serve the growing community of Pakistani immigrants in Canada and will continue to expand our service to cover more countries around the world. When you use our service, you can be sure your money will arrive quickly and securely, and you won’t have to pay any hidden or inflated fees. Since Remitbee was founded by immigrants, we understand what you need when you’re sending funds home.
