Woman sending Money from BPI to GCash

How to Send Money from BPI to GCash

BPI supports direct transfers to GCash via InstaPay, the Philippines' real-time payment infrastructure managed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

Once you initiate the transfer, funds typically appear in the recipient's GCash wallet within seconds — though occasional delays can happen during system maintenance or peak hours.

Recipients can immediately use the funds for bills, shopping, or cash withdrawals at GCash partner locations. However, unverified GCash accounts have a ₱5,000 monthly incoming limit, so encourage recipients to complete their verification to access higher limits.

How to Send Money from BPI to GCash

Since February 2025, BPI discontinued its "Load E-Wallet" feature. Transfers to GCash now go through the standard "Transfer to Other Banks" option using InstaPay. The process is straightforward but requires a few specific steps.

Via BPI Mobile App

Launch the app and navigate to your transfer options:

  1. Tap Move Money → Transfer Money
  2. Select your BPI account and enter the amount
  3. Choose To another bank/e-wallet
  4. Select G-Xchange (this is GCash's official bank name)
  5. Enter the recipient's 11-digit GCash mobile number
  6. Confirm the recipient's name appears correctly
  7. Review all details and tap Confirm
  8. Authenticate using your Mobile Key or OTP
  9. Save the transaction reference number

The funds typically appear in the GCash wallet instantly, but save your confirmation in case you need to track the transaction later.

Via BPI Online Banking

Access the website and follow these steps:

  1. Log in at online.bpi.com.ph
  2. Go to Transfer Money
  3. Select source account and enter the amount
  4. Choose Transfer to Another Bank
  5. Pick G-Xchange/GCash from the bank list
  6. Input the recipient's mobile number and name
  7. Confirm the transaction with OTP or Mobile Key
  8. Note down the reference number

Both methods use the same InstaPay infrastructure, so transfer speeds are identical. Choose whichever platform feels more convenient.

Fees and Limits

Understanding BPI's fee structure helps you plan your transfers better. According to BPI's official fee schedule, here's what you'll pay:

Transfer TypeAmount
InstaPay fee per transaction₱10
Minimum transfer₱1
Maximum per transaction₱50,000
Daily aggregate limit₱250,000
Preferred/Private clientsUp to ₱500,000 daily

The ₱50,000 cap applies per transaction, not per day. You can send multiple transfers throughout the day until you reach your ₱250,000 aggregate limit (or higher if you're a preferred client).

The ₱10 fee applies to each transfer regardless of amount — sending ₱100 or ₱50,000 costs the same.

GCash limits are important too:

  • Basic (unverified) accounts can only receive ₱5,000 monthly
  • Fully verified accounts handle up to ₱100,000
  • GCash Plus members can receive even more after additional upgrades

Transfer Timing

Transfers are almost instant through InstaPay's real-time clearing system. The BSP reports that funds settle within 20 seconds under normal conditions, though network congestion can occasionally cause brief delays.

Sending Money to GCash from Canada

BPI works great for local Philippine transfers, but Canadians have better options. RemitBee specializes in international transfers to the Philippines and delivers funds directly to GCash wallets — often within hours, though the official delivery time is up to one business day.

Why Choose RemitBee for Canada-to-Philippines Transfers

  • Regulated by FINTRAC for security
  • 24/7 access through mobile app or website
  • No transfer fees on amounts over CAD $500
  • Better exchange rates than traditional Canadian banks
  • Direct deposits to GCash, bank accounts, or cash pickup

How to Send via RemitBee

  1. Create a free RemitBee account and verify your identity
  2. Select Philippines as the destination
  3. Choose GCash as the payout method
  4. Enter the recipient's 11-digit GCash number
  5. Pay via Interac e-Transfer, bank transfer, or debit card
  6. Confirm and send

Traditional bank wire transfers from Canada typically cost $25–$50 in fees plus wider exchange rate spreads. RemitBee's zero-fee structure (on larger amounts) means more money reaches your recipient.

Other Ways to Fund GCash

Beyond BPI, several alternatives exist:

  • Bank e-wallet features — Some banks offer promotional free transfers during certain periods
  • International remittance services — Western Union, Wise, and others partner directly with GCash
  • Wire transfers — Slower and more expensive, typically 2–3 business days
  • Crypto and fintech options — Possible but complex, with additional conversion steps

Each method has tradeoffs between speed, cost, and convenience. For regular senders, sticking with established services like BPI (locally) or RemitBee (internationally) provides the best balance.
