Learn French for Free in Quebec!

By Remitbee - Jun 28, 2022

France may be the obvious choice for those looking to learn the French language, but it is certainly not the only option. In fact, for some people, Quebec in Canada may be a better choice. Here are three reasons why:

First, Quebec is much more accessible than France. It is easy to get to from almost anywhere in the world.

Second, communities in Quebec are generally much more willing to help foreigners learn and practice French than those in other French-speaking countries.

And last but not least, Quebec offers a unique and exciting way of life that is well worth exploring. From its culture and history to its beautiful natural scenery, there is something for everyone in Quebec.

So if you're thinking of studying French, don't discount Quebec as a potential destination. It just might be the perfect place for you. And if you're a new immigrant, here's how you can learn French for free in Quebec!

Full-Time French Courses for Immigrants

The Quebec government is highly committed to its citizens learning French. Hence, the Gouvernement du Québec provides free French classes to new immigrants and specialized courses tailored to specific occupations.

Full-time French classes help you learn French rapidly and integrate into Quebec more quickly. They are focused on living in Quebec: the labour market, culture, values, etc.

Beginner and intermediate-level classes are available. You may go through an interview to assess your level of French: - It lasts for 15 to 60 minutes
- Either vocal or written evaluation, depending on your level of knowledge of French - In-person or digitally

The full-time courses are taught in a classroom setting five days a week, Monday through Friday. The courses run for 8 to 12 weeks and commence at various times throughout the year. You must attend the classes for 25 to 30 hours every week. You may be offered a full-time course regardless of where you reside.

Universities, CEGEPs, community groups, and educational service centers all offer the courses. A few classes are delivered remotely to meet the requirements of specific groups of people. To attend a remote class, you must be in Québec.

The Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Francisation et de l'Intégration will give you a training site based on where you reside, the availability of the buildings, and your level of education for full-time courses. Accepting the recommended training location will provide you access to the financial aid available to help you pay for these classes.

When you apply for registration, you must be able to start your course immediately. Even in the summer, you can begin your course right away. To enroll in a full-time French course, you must provide the following information:
