Filipino Immigration Story: Glen’s Journey to Canada

By Remitbee - Oct 12, 2022

Many people dream of living in a foreign country, but the reality of moving abroad can be quite different from what you imagined. There will be new opportunities to explore, but there will also be challenges to face. It’s essential to do your research before making the big move so that you know what to expect.

One year and five months ago, Glen decided to pursue post-graduate degree studies in Canada while hoping for a better quality of life. Back in the Philippines, he worked for over 2 years as a Business Analyst. Now, he is fulfilling his Canadian dream and is currently working as a Business Analyst at a Pharmaceutical Company.

Glen’s Advice for Others Moving Abroad

If you’re considering moving abroad, Glen offers the following advice: “Stay strong and learn as much as you can. Do self-research and create a lot of connections – people.” Thus, he recommends surrounding yourself with a supportive community of friends, and colleagues, and being open to new connections. You’ll need all the help you can to surpass some challenges that Canadian newcomers face such as having limited resources, limited working hours allowed for international students, limited connections, and a whole lot more. Finally, he urges people to take advantage of the opportunities that come with living in a new country, such as experiencing different seasons or cultures.

What Glen Enjoyed About Living in Canada

In addition to the supportive community he found here, Glen also enjoyed the different seasons in Canada (something he didn’t have back home in the Philippines) as well as the diversity and inclusion of cultures. He was also happy to find that there were plenty of work opportunities available for people of all backgrounds.

Glen’s Choice of Remittance Service Provider

Just like many other overseas Filipinos, Glen sends money back home to his loved ones as well for the purpose of paying insurance premiums and other bills. To him, reliability is important as the money being sent all comes from hard work. He shares that he likes using RemitBee to send money because of its “easy and customer-friendly interface (mobile app and web), more-than-acceptable exchange rate, low fees, quick customer service.” He says he was able to use the referral program as an opportunity to share the goodness of RemitBee’s platform with others. Hence, he won as the top referrer in the recently concluded referral contest of RemitBee.

Moving to a new country can be both exciting and daunting – but it can also be an incredibly enriching experience. If you’re considering moving overseas, take Glen’s advice and be sure to stay strong and learn as much as possible.
