The Bank of Jamaica was founded in 1960, and on May 1st, 1961, it officially opened for business. Its headquarters are in Kingston, serving as the country's central bank. The bank is in charge of Jamaica's monetary policy and is governed by a board of governors.
The Jamaican dollar (JA$) is issued by the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ). The banks main fuction is to support the country's economic growth. The bank also has several other fuctions, including the following:
Serve as the government's banker and financial representative.
To serve as a banker to institutions that accept deposits.
To keep and oversee Jamaica's foreign reserves.
