An IBAN is an International Bank Account Number. In Turkey, it gives each bank account a fixed international format for money transfers, payment validation, and account identification.

A Turkish IBAN starts with TR and includes two check digits, a five-digit bank code, one reserve digit, and a sixteen-character account number. Some international transfers may also request a BIC or SWIFT code.

Do we need IBAN for Turkey?

Yes, Turkey uses IBANs for bank transfers, international payments, and account validation. A local Turkish account number may not be enough for payment forms because banks need the TR country code, IBAN check digits, bank code, reserve digit, and account number in one official format. The IBAN helps reduce transfer errors by giving payment systems a consistent way to check Turkish bank details before processing.
