How to immigrate to Canada

There are numerous ways to immigrate to Canada and obtain permanent residence in the country. Whether you are eligible for a Working Holiday Visa, Express Entry, or have your eye on a particular province for the Provincial Nominee Program, start here. Permanent Residence

Federal skilled worker class

     

By submitting an expression of interest profile to the Express Entry Pool, skilled individuals in 347 eligible occupations who meet minimal entry criteria can apply for Express Entry. The profiles of applicants in the pool are ranked using a Comprehensive Ranking System.

Federal skilled trades class

     

The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for people who work in skilled trades. It is aimed at people who have a skilled trade qualification and want to become permanent residents.

Canadian Experience class

     

The Canadian Experience Class is an immigration category for foreign workers who wish to remain in Canada permanently. This is a terrific opportunity for international students and temporary foreign workers.

Family class

Spouse/common law

A Canadian or permanent resident can sponsor their spouse or common-law partner to live in Canada permanently with them. The Canadian government recognizes the importance of keeping families together. As a result, it is a high-priority immigration type.

Dependent children

Both natural and adopted children are eligible to join their parents permanently in Canada.

Parent and grandparent program

This program is open to both Canadians and permanent residents. Sponsored parents and grandparents become permanent residents of Canada, with all the advantages it involves, via this scheme, known as the PGP.

    Ontario

         

    Under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, an applicant can apply for permanent residency through one of three streams. Employer job offer, human capital, and business are the three categories. You must be invited to apply by the province.

    Alberta

         

    Three streams exist for Alberta immigration. The basis will depend on if you want to come as a worker, which is the first two schemes, or as an entrepreneur - the farmer category. The three options are the Alberta Opportunity Stream, Alberta Express Entry and Alberta Self-Employed Farmer.

    British Columbia

         

    British Columbia Skills Immigration and British Columbia Entrepreneur Immigration are the two main categories for BC immigration. There are various substreams to consider. The program will periodically ask the top applicants in each category to apply to the BC provincial nominee program.

    Work Permits

    International Experience Canada

         

    This program is for young people aged 18 to 34 (and in some cases maximum 29 or 30) who want to travel to Canada to work for a set period of time. Applying isn't as straightforward as you might think. You must first become a candidate in a pool, get an invitation to apply then apply for a work permit.

    Intra-company transfers

         

    An intra-company transfer may be an option for employees who currently work for a foreign company. Under this work permit category, multinational enterprises can temporarily deploy skilled individuals to Canada to improve efficiency, increase Canadian exports, and improve competitiveness in international markets. Intra-company transferees who meet specified requirements are exempt from the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) and do not require work permits.

    International Mobility Program

         

    This program is a category of temporary work permit Canada offers. In short, it is for positions where there’s a benefit for Canada or a job that provides reciprocal benefits for Canadians. An employer can hire someone through this scheme without the need for a Labour Market Impact Assessment.

    USMCA

         

    Without the need for an LMIA, certain types of employees from the United States and Mexico are permitted to work in Canada. This arrangement is governed by the USMCA (the United States Mexico Canada Agreement). Under the USMCA Professionals category, workers from a wide range of occupations can work in Canada. This is a subcategory of the International Mobility Program.

    Global Talent Stream

         

    For companies, the stream allows them to be able to hire foreign nationals more quickly. It was started to give companies access to highly skilled global talent in order to increase their workforce in Canada and remain competitive globally. There are two categories that employers can use under the Global Talent Stream program. There are two categories. For Category A, employers must have been directed to the Global Talent Stream by one of the GTS's recognized partners and is using the stream to hire unique and specialized workers. Category B is for highly skilled workers whose occupations are on the Global Talent Occupations List.

    CETA

         

    CETA is the acronym for the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. It allows European citizens to come to Canada for work. Foreign workers covered by CETA may be able to work in Canada without an LMIA or even a work permit.

    Canada UK Continuity agreement

         

    The Canada UK Continuity agreement (CUKTCA) is similar to CETA, above, and was in fact modelled on the basics of CETA. The agreement, among other things, allows certain UK nationals to work in Canada after Brexit.

    Bridging Open Work Permit

         

    For those waiting on a response to their permanent residency application, the BOWP may be a great option for continuity so they don’t have to stop working. This open work permit Canada started to let workers continue employment during the decision period. The applicant must be in Canada and have a work permit that’s still valid for another four months. It can give them peace of mind while waiting for a final decision.

    Post Graduation Work Permit

         

    This popular program allows graduates to work when they have completed study at an eligible Canadian institution. It also allows them to work while they are waiting for their application to be processed. For this type of Canada work permit eligibility, an applicant must have completed a program of study that's a minimum of eight months long. The government of Canada maintains a list of designated learning institutions that it accepts.
