By Remitbee - Jun 14, 2022

A police clearance certificate is one of the documents required when applying to travel to Canada. Whether you're a student, visitor, temporary worker, or permanent resident, you'll need the certificate.

If you're over 18, you'll require the certificate. The certificate states that you have never been convicted of a crime. However, if you have, it may make you inadmissible to Canada. But don't worry, it's a straightforward procedure. Continue reading for information on how to obtain a police clearance certificate.

Police Clearance Certificate Procedure

Obtaining a police clearance certificate is mainly determined by your residence at the time of application. Let's look at ways to approach the application process depending on your location:

If You live in Pakistan:

Here is a simple procedure if you currently reside in Pakistan and have done so for more than six months.

  • Get a copy of the application for a police clearance certificate.
  • Please submit your application together with the documentation listed below.
  • You'll need to take the documents and the application letter to obtain the superintendent's signature on the application.
  • Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC)
  • Passport copy
  • Two photographs for your passport
  • After signing, take the document to your local police station with all your essential information.
  • Your file will be taken by the appropriate officer, who will begin the verification process.
  • If the local police have no reservations about your character, they will take your thumbprints, photograph you, and provide a printed police clearance certificate.
  • Within seven working days, you can obtain it from the SSP.

Please keep the following in mind:

If you live in a big city, you can get application forms from your local "city" or "city police officer." They will provide you with the necessary certificate.

Suppose you live in a smaller city, town, or area. In that case, the application forms are accessible at the local district office of the Superintendent of Police (SSP), the police security branch's Senior. The certificate will be issued to you by the SSP.

If you live in an area where there are no police, a gazetted officer (assistant political agent) and a non-gazetted officer are usually present (Tehsildar). You should acquire permission from the tribal elders, who will then pass it on to the Tehsildar. The Tehsildar forwards it to the political agent, who will issue it to you from their office.

If You Live Outside Of Pakistan

For assistance, contact the Pakistani embassy or consulate in your region. Make sure you have the following documents on hand:

  • A copy of your National Identity Card that has been certified
  • Two passport-size photos are required.
  • Certified copies of your passport, containing all legal pages indicating the duration of your visit.
  • A filled-out application form
  • Fees for applications.

If you have a Pakistani relative, you can have them apply on your behalf. They will require all of the documents listed above and a few more.

They will need a letter of authority in their name, allowing them to obtain the certificate on your behalf. They'll need to write an affidavit (on judicial stamp paper worth 20Rs) saying they'll receive your certificate on your behalf.

When Should I Submit The Police Clearance Certificate?

The list below illustrates the types of programs for which a police clearance certificate is required when applying. So, if you're applying for any of the programs listed below, obtain your certificate as soon as possible.

Express Entry Candidate:

Your certificate must be submitted within 60 days. It's a good idea to start the application process as soon as your profile has been added to the pool.

You'll need a certificate for every country you've resided in for more than six months since turning 18 years old and for the past ten years.

Scan copies of the original certificate(s) in colour are required for the police certificates. No unauthorized or certified true copies will be accepted.

The certificate for the country where you are currently residing must not be expired and must be valid for at least the previous six months before submitting your application.

The certificate for any other country where you have lived must be given after the last time you stayed there for six months or more in a row.

International Experience Canada Candidate (IEC):

When applying for a work visa, you will almost always be required to produce a police clearance certificate.

Applying for citizenship:

  • When filing for the following citizenship applications, you must provide your police clearance certificate.
  • If you've previously given up your Canadian citizenship and want to reclaim it.
  • If you are at least 18 years old.
  • Applying for another immigration program:

If you apply for any other immigration program besides the three listed above, you will require a police clearance certificate. The following are the different programs:

  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  • Family Class Sponsorship Program
  • The Provincial Nominee Program.
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Immigration to Quebec.
  • Skilled Trades in the Federal Government.
  • Self-Employed, Investors and Entrepreneurs

What Happens If I Can’t Get The Police Certificate On Time?

If you are unable to obtain a police certificate on time, you have two options:

  1. You have the option to decline the invitation and reapply later.
  2. You can proceed with your application and upload evidence demonstrating that you have already requested the police certificate and a letter of application. A tracking number or payment receipt are documents indicating that you have already started the application for the police certificate.

However, the IRCC immigration officers may opt to reject your application or accept the documents as a placeholder until you acquire your police certificate.

However, if you submit your application without either the police certificate or the placeholder, it will almost probably be rejected.

You should note that submitting your application without either the police certificate or the placeholder will undoubtedly be incomplete.

Conclusion

It's easier to apply for any Canadian immigration program now that you know when you'll require a police clearance certificate. It should no longer be a roadblock to your travel plans to Canada.

Another issue that should not be a roadblock in your vacation and stay in Canada is figuring out how to send money back to Pakistan or anywhere else. Remitbee will take care of all of it and any currency exchange you might want to do.
