Step 2: Complete all the required forms and submit supporting documents.

To be able to renew your Sri Lankan passport, you are required to submit all of the following forms and documents:

  • Fill out the Application For Amending A Sri Lankan Travel Document
  • Provide your current original passport
  • Include your status in Canada

Things to remember Ensure to include your work permit if you are working in Canada or a student permit if you are studying in the country. It is also best to add a letter from Canadian Immigration that indicates the applicant's present status in Canada.

If you are renewing your passport to alter your name concerning marriage, submit your original marriage certificate and spouse's passport (with photocopies of each), along with your application.

If you are renewing your passport to change the indicated profession, submit your academic or professional certificate(s) with one photocopy each and a letter from the employer confirming the job.

If you are a parent and wish to include the names and photos of your children in your passport, you must submit the following documents:

  • A letter from both parents to enter the child's name
  • Three 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm photographs of the child
  • Parents' passport

Step 3: Pay the Sri Lankan Passport Renewal Fee

Payment for passport renewal varies. Consider the following in making your payments for your renewal application: The renewal fee for a lost passport is CAD 380 if the applicant submits the lost passport details. If the applicant cannot submit the details of the lost passport, the charge is CAD 480.

For the mere renewal of the passport, the applicant must pay CAD 5 per year. Renewing a passport that calls for alteration, such as changing marital status or profession, costs CAD 15.

Payments for consular service should be made in favour of the High Commission of Sri Lanka. Only cash will be accepted at the counter, and if the applicant cannot meet the requirements as specified, there will be no refund of fees.

Step 4: Submit your application

Once the form has been filled out and all supporting papers have been prepared, you can begin submitting your application for a passport renewal.

Place your duly filled-out form and other renewal requirements in an envelope before dropping it off at the Consul General's Office in the specific dropbox provided.

If you wish to submit your application, mail it by post using the address provided below. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope for the Consul General's Office to send you your renewed passport.

Step 5: Receive your new Sri Lankan passport

Unfortunately, the Sri Lankan Consulate General has not provided any website where an applicant can monitor their passport renewal process. The Consul General's Office also admitted that it takes them 8 to 10 weeks to process a renewal application.

However, once your passport has been renewed, it will be mailed back to you through mail or Canada Post. By then, you may contact them for any updates.
