How To Renew A Polish Passport In Canada

You've been in Canada for a while, yet your Polish passport needs to be renewed. You may find the process intimidating because this is your first time renewing or because it has been several years, and you have forgotten.

To renew your passport, go to any Polish consular office; note that the location where you apply is also where you pick it up. You cannot apply for a Polish passport by emailing or sending documents; you must apply in person.

The Process of and Requirements for Renewing Polish Passport in Canada

Here's how to proceed after you've scheduled an appointment;

1. You need to complete a passport application form which you can download or collect from the consulate.

2. The consul staff needs a color photograph, which must meet the following criteria:

3. The photograph should have been taken no more than six months before the date of the new passport application.
4. The photo should capture your whole head upto the top of the shoulders, and the face should cover 70-80% of the photo.
5. You should not wear a hat or any other head covering unless religious reasons. The photo should reveal the complete oval of your face and the line of your ears.
6. Attach a certificate stating that you are a member of a religious community. (It's best if the community is registered in Poland.)
7. Sunglasses, dark lenses, or light-reflecting glasses should not be worn by persons who wear glasses since the eyes should be visible.
8. You can wear contact lenses as long as they don't alter your eyes' natural color or shape.
9. Dark glasses can be worn by those with congenital or acquired vision problems. They must, however, include a certificate or a degree of disability with their application.
10. If your stubble, beard, or mustache makes it harder to recognize you, the consulate recommends taking a photo without facial hair.
11. Avoid wearing jewelry when you are taking a photo. If you have to make sure it does not cover the oval of your face or disturb the uniform background of the photo.
12. When taking the photo, don’t tilt your head; your facial expression should be natural, lips closed, eyes naturally open with pupils visible and directed straight at the lens, and unobstructed eyebrows.
13. However, if the photo has been taken correctly, but your mouth is open, eyes are closed, and your face looks strange due to illness, physical traits, or an accident, the consul may approve the photo.
14. It's best if you're the only one in the photo. The shot should be white and evenly lighted, with no shadows. It should be clean and simple with neutral colors.
15. There should be no kinks or damage to the photo's surface. It should also reflect your skin's natural colour.

16. The color photo should be 35mm (width) and 45mm (height) and attached to a piece of paper.

18. If you took on your spouse's name once you married abroad, the consul would need your Polish marriage certificate.
19. If you don’t have a PESEL number, then a copy of your Polish birth certificate will be required. -A document that verifies your eligibility for a reduced passport fee, such as a student card, may also be required.

NB: If the consul's staff is unable to verify your identity and citizenship using the documents you've supplied or those in their database, you'll be asked to submit the following information:

• A legitimate passport from another country.
• Copy of your Polish birth certificate is required by the consul.
• A copy of your Polish marriage certificate is needed.

• A judgment by the province governor certifying your Polish citizenship

• Even if your passport has expired, remember to have your current or temporary passport with you

• You’ll find the passport fees listed in the Consular fees section. When you submit your application, you normally pay the fees at the office counter. Cash, money orders, and certified bank checks are the only methods of payment accepted. There are no debit cards, personal checks, or credit cards accepted.

• A consul officer will offer you an expected collection time when you apply for a passport. The receipt will also include a written confirmation. Your passport application number will be printed on the receipt if you need to check on its status online.

Things To Note

If you live in Canada, the actions outlined above will make renewing your Polish passport much easier. However, there are a few other points to consider:

• You'll pick up your new passport at the same location where you applied. Bring your old passport with you when you go to get your new documents to be cancelled. The consul staff will not cancel the papers containing valid visas, and you will receive your old passport back.

• Let the embassy staff know when you apply if you have a good reason for not picking up your visa in person. You will be required to submit a reasoned request (available at the consulate office) as well as pay for the postage.

If the consul rejects your passport renewal application, go ahead and file an appeal with the minister of internal affairs through the consul. The consul can reject your application for two reasons:

• You are facing legal action as a result of civil, criminal, or tax violations or as a result of an offense against a minor.
• Authorities have started preliminary or civil actions against you in a criminal case or tax evasion offense.
