How to Cancel e-Transfer in RBC Bank

By Remitbee - Jun 13, 2022

Everyone makes mistakes. And sometimes, out of confusion or an honest mistake, you may need to cancel an e-Transfer you’ve made in RBC Bank. Errors such as entering the wrong amount, typing the wrong name of your recipient, or typing the incorrect email address are some of the reasons why you would need to cancel an e-Transfer you made in this bank.

Whatever the reason you want to cancel an e-Transfer, the good news is that you can still cancel or even edit and resend the e-Transfer so long as it is not yet deposited to the account. After successfully cancelling an e-Transfer in RBC Bank, the money can be returned to your account or be reclaimed through Online Banking.

As a word of caution, though, if your recipient is registered for autodeposit, meaning the money is automatically deposited to their RBC Bank account, it won’t be possible to cancel the said transaction.

How to Cancel Interac e-Transfer in RBC Bank?

If the money has not yet been deposited into your recipient's account, you can still reclaim the amount through Online Banking. Here are the four steps you need to take to cancel an Interac e-Transfer in RBC Bank:

  1. Open the RBC Banking tab online, then click “Pay Bills and Transfer Funds.”

  2. Click the “Payment History” tab.

  3. Click the confirmation code of the Interac e-Transfer you want to cancel from that list.

  4. On the Interac e-Transfer detail page, click on “Cancel Payment.”

This process will cancel any unclaimed e-Transfer you made on RBC’s mobile app under 15 calendar days. After these 15 days, RBC will return the amount to your account and deduct $5 as a reclaim fee.

If you cannot find any “Cancel” option on the Interac e-Transfer you want to cancel, it is no longer possible to cancel the payment.
