Almost one year ago, Canada’s borders were closed to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Leaving families and couples separated with no end in sight. Since then, additional restrictions and exemptions have been added making family reunification more complicated.
In the next episode of Remitbee Expert, we speak with Dr. David Poon, Canadian family physician and founder of Faces of Advocacy a lobbyist organization focused on helping people living in Canada reunite with their foreign loved ones during COVID-19. Join us to learn about restrictions, exemptions, and how you can get involved to help yourself and others be reunited with their families!
What is Faces of Advocacy
Faces of Advocacy is a grassroots organization aimed at family reunification during the COVID-19 pandemic that started as a group on Facebook. The group's numbers grew to 10K members, whose stories of hardship caused by separation quickly captured the attention of global media and Canadian politicians alike.
In October, Faces of Advocacy successfully lobbied the government to create exemptions allowing extended family and long term unmarried couples to reunite safely in Canada. The organization is now focused on helping those not included in these exemptions such as temporary workers as well as protecting family reunification as essential travel when it comes to new travel restrictions. You can learn more about Faces of Advocacy here and sign their petition here.
Each month we host a live AMA’s (Ask Me Anything) covering a variety of different topics and featuring a Canadian expert on the theme. Our aim is to empower our audience with knowledge and allow experts to connect with people who may need their help. How Does It Work?
